Hermes Agent Plugins Marketplace: The Quick Start, And Where Each Plugin Fits In Your Agent OS

By Julian Goldie · 7 October 2026 · agentos.guide

A glowing catalog wall of plugin cards snapping into a Hermes Agent desktop app, illustrating the Hermes Agent plugins marketplace

The Hermes Agent plugins marketplace is Nous Research's official Plugin Catalog, where you browse hundreds of free plugins and install them into Hermes Desktop with one click.

Hermes Agent is the free, open-source AI agent from Nous Research, and these plugins give it new tools, new channels and new screens.

The questions I get most are where the catalog lives, how to install a plugin safely and which plugins are worth adding.

So here is the five-step quick start, then a map of where every plugin from my video fits inside an Agent OS.

Hermes Agent plugins marketplace: the 60-second explanation

The Hermes Agent plugins marketplace is the official Plugin Catalog for Hermes Agent and Hermes Desktop.

Nous Research runs it, and it launched in mid-September 2026 with around 100 plugins.

It lives on the official docs site at hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/docs/plugins.

In my video I said Hermes just got 500 free plugins, and the real number is close.

When I ran hermes plugins browse on 7 October 2026, the curated catalog listed 469 plugins, with 9 official and 460 from the community.

Every plugin is free to install, although a few connect to services that need their own API key.

You can filter the catalog by source and by category, and the categories cover desktop, tools, memory, models, automation, web and browser, platforms, voice and general.

The quick-start: install your first Hermes plugin in five steps

This is the exact flow I used in the video, laid out so you can follow along.

StepWhat you doWhy it matters
1Open the Plugin Catalog and filter by category. You only look at plugins for the job you actually need done.
2Read the plugin's README and check its stars, version and last-updated date. You learn what it does, what it needs and whether anyone still maintains it.
3Click Open in Hermes Desktop.Hermes Desktop opens an install dialog, so you never touch the terminal.
4Choose where the plugin appears and check the GitHub repo in the dialog. You confirm exactly whose code you are about to run.
5Choose the Hermes profile that gets the plugin, then click Install.A test profile keeps a new plugin away from your main agent until you trust it.

That is one click from the catalog, plus two quick choices in the dialog.

I keep one Hermes profile per model so I can switch and compare them, and a spare test profile works the same way for plugins.

How to read a listing before you click install

Every listing in the Hermes Agent plugins marketplace has the same layout, and it tells you almost everything you need.

Hermes Tailscale is a good example, because it showed 52 stars, version 0.0.6 and an update on 4 October 2026 when I checked.

The old way versus the new way

The old way of adding a plugin was the terminal.

You found a repo, cloned it, clicked around config files and restarted Hermes.

I once spent about three hours on GitHub on a skill that didn't even work in the end.

The new way is one click with ratings on the page.

You see what other people trust before you spend a minute on it.

The terminal route has not gone away, and every listing still shows the install command.

CommandWhat it does
hermes plugins search <word>It searches the curated catalog.
hermes plugins browseIt lists every curated entry with its category and tier.
hermes plugins info <name>It shows the repo, the pinned commit, the maintainer and what the plugin adds.
hermes plugins install <name>It installs the plugin after a security scan.
hermes plugins listIt lists what you already have installed.
hermes plugins enable / disableThey switch a plugin on or off without deleting it.
hermes plugins check-updatesIt checks for new versions without changing anything.
hermes plugins remove <name>It uninstalls a plugin.

I confirmed each of those command names with hermes plugins --help on my own install.

Where the plugins fit inside an Agent OS

I don't think about plugins one at a time.

I think about which layer of my Agent OS each one strengthens.

Hermes is the agent that does the work, the Agent OS is the dashboard and memory around it, and plugins are how you give that agent new senses and new channels.

Here is how every plugin I showed in the video maps onto those layers.

Agent OS layerPlugin from the videoWhat it addsStars when I checked

Star counts move every day, so treat those as a snapshot from 7 October 2026.

Awareness: Hermes Newswire

Hermes Newswire puts a scrolling ticker of headlines at the bottom of a new chat.

You add topics and sources in its settings, and I searched for "Hermes agent" release notes as my first source.

You can add several sources, delete the ones you don't want and resize the ticker.

The settings let you switch it on or off, set the speed to fast or slow and pause it.

In an Agent OS, that gives you a live feed of your niche without spending a single model token.

Reach: Hermes Tailscale

Hermes Tailscale lets you connect to and control Hermes across multiple devices, such as your phone and your laptop.

Its page shows the README, what it does, what it's powered by and where it works.

It uses the Tailscale app you already have, and its README says it needs no admin API token.

There are manual install steps too, but they are much slower than one click.

Channels: WhatsApp and Minecraft

The WhatsApp agent platform plugin connects Hermes to Meta's WhatsApp Agent Platform API.

Its page states that it is not affiliated with Meta or Nous Research and that those agent chats are not end-to-end encrypted.

The Minecraft gateway spawns a bot that joins a Minecraft server and passes chat between players and Hermes.

Research: browser automations and web search

The Web and Browser category is where the browser automations and search providers live.

Brave Search adds a tool called brave_web_search and asks for your Brave API key during install.

Ollama Cloud web search adds search and page extraction, and it reuses your Ollama API key.

Voice: pick one, not four

The voice plugins, such as Hermes Speech, Hermes Talk and Hermes Live Voice, turn Hermes into something like Jarvis.

Install only one, and pick the one with the most stars.

Hermes Speech had 196 stars when I checked, which put it well ahead of the rest of the Voice category.

Automation and visibility: job search and Hermes Office

The job search plugin filters job postings on what matters to you, described in plain English, and writes digests on a schedule.

Hermes Office, which I called Hermes Office 2 in the video, gives your agents a visual office with a one-click install.

You send a task to a bot by its nameplate, and you can see who is busy and who needs input.

The safety check you must do every single time

This is the one thing I said you must check in the video.

Most plugins in the Hermes Agent plugins marketplace are built by the community, so a plugin could do things you don't want.

Read the GitHub repository and the README before you install anything.

Hermes adds a safety net, because hermes plugins install runs a security scan and will not install anything marked dangerous.

The Newswire README explains that a "caution" result becomes a confirm prompt in the terminal, while the Desktop install refuses it and lists the findings.

In an Agent OS, I also install new plugins into a test profile first, so my main agent never runs code I haven't watched in action.

Don't install everything

This is where most people go wrong.

They see hundreds of free plugins and install forty of them on day one.

Every plugin is one more thing to update and one more thing that can break after a Hermes release.

Plugins that add tools also give your model more choices to make on every turn, which can make a smaller model clumsier.

Pick two or three plugins that fix a real problem this week, and add the next one only when you feel the gap.

My recommended first week with Hermes plugins

On day one, install Hermes Newswire and point it at your niche.

On day two, add Hermes Tailscale so you can reach Hermes from your phone.

On day three, add one voice plugin and try talking to your agent.

After that, add a search, platform or office plugin only if a real job calls for it.

If you want all of this wired into a full Agent OS with tutorials, the setup lives inside the AI Profit Boardroom.
