Grok Bot Shopping In Your Agent OS: A Quick Start, 5 Copy-Paste Prompts And A Weekly Buying Workflow

By Julian Goldie · 31 October 2026 · agentos.guide

A dark aubergine dashboard where a gold shopping agent icon passes three product cards along a track to an approval card with a glowing checkmark, then on to a parcel tracker

Grok Bot shopping slots into your Agent OS as the buying specialist: it finds products, shows them as cards, starts an order you approve with Buy now, and tracks the parcel to your door.

xAI shipped it in v0.78.1 on 27 October 2026.

This guide gives you a five-minute quick start, five copy-paste prompts and a weekly workflow.

Quick start: five minutes in Settings

  1. Check your plan. Premium, Super and Ultra include Grok Bot, and Plus doesn't (X Subscription docs).
  2. Update the app. Vault needs Grok Bot 0.75.2 or later.
  3. Open Settings, then Vault, and save your contact info with a hint such as "Use for work purchases".
  4. In the Payments tab, connect Shop Pay, X Money or Link, and make one the method Bots use first.
  5. In Settings, General, under Bot, add an Ask first rule for purchases.

Do the steps in that order.

Contact info first means the Bot never stalls on an address form, and setting the rule before your first request means no purchase ever runs without it.

That's the base.

Everything else is prompts.

Where shopping sits in your Agent OS

Think of your Agent OS as a team of agents with clear jobs.

Grok Bot shopping takes the buying lane: research, orders, tracking and subscriptions.

Money decisions stay with you through approval cards.

The approvals page lists purchases as one of the actions to keep behind an explicit boundary.

Give the buying agent a clear name, such as Buyer, so everyone knows which agent handles money.

Because Vault is shared across every Bot on your account, that naming is about discipline rather than a technical lock.

Prompt 1: lock in the purchase rules

Paste this into a new chat with your Bot first.

The approvals docs suggest telling each Bot its standing boundaries and asking it to remember them.

You are my shopping Bot. Remember these standing rules for every task:
1. Never complete a checkout, start a trial or change a subscription
without showing me an approval card first.
2. Before any purchase, show me the merchant, the items and the total.
3. Use the payment method set as my default in Vault > Payments.
4. Use the contact entry with the hint "Use for work purchases"
   for anything business related.
5. If I deny a card, stop and wait for my next message.
Confirm these rules back to me in one short list.

Then back it up with a real Ask first rule in Custom Rules, because a rule always stops a matching action.

Run Prompt 1 again whenever you change your default payment method or add a new contact entry.

Prompt 2: research and shortlist

Use this whenever you need something bought.

Writing "do not buy anything" in your own message gives Auto Review a clear instruction, since text from web pages doesn't count as your request.

Find [product] that ships within [number] days.
Show me 3 to 4 options as product cards.
For each one, tell me the store, the rating and why it made the list.
Only include in-stock options.
Do not buy anything. Stop after the shortlist.

The Bot replies with a carousel of three or four cards, in-stock options first.

Swap the brackets for your real item and deadline, because the tighter the brief, the better the cards.

Prompt 3: buy with an approval card

Once you've picked a winner, send this.

Go ahead with option [number] from the shortlist.
Use Buy now and wait for my approval on the order.
After I approve, track the order and tell me when it ships
and when it arrives.

With your Ask first rule on, the card shows Allow and Not now.

Check the merchant, item and total, then decide.

For bigger orders, prefer a one-time Link card, since you then approve the payment itself as well as the order.

Prompt 4: the subscription sweep

v0.78.1 added three subscription templates: Try it, don't pay for it, Find unused subscriptions and Watch subscription prices.

The changelog says Bots confirm with you before changing anything.

Run the "Find unused subscriptions" template on my accounts.
List each subscription with its renewal date if you can see it.
Do not cancel anything. I'll tell you which ones to cancel,
and you'll show me an approval card for each one.

Run it once a month, and note which subscriptions you keep and why, so the next sweep goes faster.

Use Try it, don't pay for it when you want to test a new tool, since it cancels or reminds you before the trial bills.

Prompt 5: the weekly order and deal report

Turn the tracking into a routine so the summary comes to you.

Every Friday at 9am, send me a short report:
- orders placed this week and their shipping stage
- any refunds or returns Order Concierge is tracking
- price drops or coupons Deal Watcher found on my watch list
Draft only. Don't buy, cancel or message anyone.

Keep routines on drafts and reports.

Any approval card a routine raises expires after 30 minutes, so live purchases belong in a chat you're watching.

The saved-card question, settled

The changelog and the docs don't say quite the same thing here.

v0.77.0 states you still approve every purchase, and v0.78.1 says Buy now starts an order you approve.

The Vault payments section is blunter: once a card is stored, checkout fills it in with no prompt, and there's no switch to demand one per payment.

So in your Agent OS, follow one rule: no saved cards, plus an Ask first rule for every purchase.

When a Secure Form asks for a card, leave Securely save to Bot's vault unchecked so it's used only in that chat.

If a card is already saved, remove it in Settings, Vault, and check that list once a month for cards saved by accident.

A Link one-time card is the cleanest option, because you approve each purchase with the merchant, items and total on screen.

Troubleshooting your buying lane

A few things trip people up in the first week.

Your weekly Grok Bot shopping workflow

Keep this rhythm for a month before you add anything new to the lane.

Once it runs smoothly, point Deal Watcher at a second list of supplier items.

The Bot never sees your card number or security code, according to the Vault docs.

Vault covers your whole account, so every Bot you run can use what's saved there.

FAQ

Can a routine buy things for me while I'm away?

Keep routines to drafts and reports. Approval cards raised by a routine expire after 30 minutes, and a purchase rule should always ask you first.

Will my Bot remember my shopping rules?

Ask it to remember its standing boundaries, as the approvals docs suggest, and add a matching Ask first rule in Custom Rules so the rule is enforced.

Which payment method should my Agent OS shopping Bot use?

A connected wallet set as the default in Vault, Payments. Link one-time cards ask you to approve each purchase with the merchant, items and total shown.

Can I give each agent in my Agent OS its own card?

Not in Grok Bot's Vault. Everything saved there is available to every Bot on your account, and items can't be limited to one Bot.
