Grok Bot Android: Run Approvals, Notifications And Phone Apps From Your Agent OS

By Julian Goldie · 2 November 2026 · agentos.guide

An illustrated Android phone glowing on a dark aubergine background, with gold approval cards floating up from it towards a cloud computer

Grok Bot Android slots into your Agent OS as the pocket end of the system: your Agent OS on the computer plans and checks the work, and the phone is where you approve it, nudge it and read the results.

The Android app needs Android 9 or later and installs from Google Play, per xAI's mobile documentation.

It talks to the same Bots, chats, routines, connectors and cloud computer as the desktop app.

Below: a quick start, four prompts to paste into your Agent OS, and a daily loop that keeps the phone useful rather than noisy.

If you'd like my team to choose the first SEO jobs worth handing over, book a free SEO strategy session.

Quick start on the phone

  1. Confirm the phone runs Android 9 or later.
  2. Install Grok Bot from the official Google Play listing (package ai.x.grok.bot).
  3. Tap Log In or Sign Up and finish Cursor authentication in the browser with the account your desktop uses.
  4. If your access comes from SuperGrok or X Premium+, tap Link Grok Account, then Finished Linking? Refresh My Status.
  5. Allow notifications when the first-run screen asks.

Existing users land straight on their synced Bot list; new users get a short tour and a first Bot.

How the phone and your Agent OS split the work

Think of three layers.

Your Agent OS writes briefs, checks outputs and keeps notes.

Grok Bot's cloud computer does the browsing, drafting and app work.

The Android app is the remote: messages, approvals, take-overs and routine controls.

Nothing runs on the phone itself unless a Bot uses one of its four apps: Calendar, Contacts, Location or Alarms.

Some jobs never move to the phone, says the Get Started guide: teaching by demonstration, testing routines and updating the computer.

Prompt 1: audit your plan before you touch the paywall

The app shows a paywall, and buying through Google Play when your account already has access is wasted money.

Have your Agent OS check first.

Read docs.x.ai/grok-bot/mobile (Access and subscriptions) and docs.x.ai/x-subscription/grok-bot.
I am on: [paste your plan name and any SuperGrok / X Premium+ link].
Tell me in three lines:
1. Does this plan already include Grok Bot on Android?
2. Should I buy anything through Google Play? (Answer no if access already exists.)
3. If I later switch to The X Subscription, what must I cancel in Google Play?

Expect a clear no on the second question for Premium, Super, Ultra, legacy Cursor paid plans and linked SuperGrok accounts.

The phone and the desktop share one usage allowance, so a second purchase adds nothing.

Prompt 2: write your Ask first rules for phone approvals

Auto Review is on by default, and on Android its switch and Custom Rules sit in the Bot group of Settings.

Each rule is one plain-English action set to Allow automatically or Ask first, as the approvals guide explains.

Draft 6 Grok Bot Custom Rules for me, one action per rule, max 1,000 characters each.
Mark each as "Ask first" or "Allow automatically".
Ask first: sending email to clients, publishing anything, deleting files,
changing calendar events, anything that buys or pays.
Allow automatically: reading my own inbox labels.
Format: "When Grok Bot wants to: ..." / "It should: ...".

Paste each rule into the phone, one at a time, and tap Add Rule.

Where an Allow and an Ask first rule both match, the Ask first rule wins.

Prompt 3: plan the notification setup

Notifications need both Android's permission and the Bot's own switch, which lives in the Bot's profile.

While your desktop app is open on a Mac or Windows machine, alerts from your Bots go there, and a Bot waiting on you reaches the phone about 3 minutes later.

That rule is in the settings and notifications page and arrived in v0.71.2 of the changelog.

List my Grok Bots: [paste names and what each does].
Sort them into:
A) notify on phone (needs approvals, client-facing, runs routines)
B) mute (experiments, research only)
For each B Bot, remind me: open the Bot on Android, tap its name, turn Notifications off.

Routine cards expire after 30 minutes if nobody answers, so routine Bots belong in group A.

Prompt 4: decide which phone apps a Bot may use

Grant only what the job needs.

Head to Connect apps in Settings, tap Android beside All, and grant each app under This device.

I want my Grok Bot to help with: [describe jobs].
Using docs.x.ai/grok-bot/mobile ("Let a Bot use your phone's apps"), tell me which of
Calendar, Contacts, Location and Alarms each job needs, and what each app cannot do on Android.

Your Agent OS should flag the limits: contacts are read only, repeating events can't be edited, and alarms go to the Clock app without confirmation.

The Bot can only reach your phone apps while Grok Bot is open on the phone.

Prompt 5: a weekly review you run from the sofa

The phone shows usage, routine history and your device list, so your Agent OS can walk you through a short review.

Every Friday, ask me for three things from the Grok Bot Android app:
1. Settings > Usage: how much of this week's allowance is used.
2. Each Bot's profile > Routines: any routine with failed runs in Run history.
3. Settings > Bot > Manage your devices: any device I don't recognise.
Then give me a five-line summary and one change to make next week.

Phones can't be removed from the device list, but an offline computer can be, with Remove Computer.

Pause any misbehaving routine with Active, then describe the fix in chat using Edit routine.

The daily loop

Morning: brief the Bot from your Agent OS or by Start dictation on the phone.

Daytime: answer cards from notifications; tap a card to read the full request before you pick Allow once, Always allow or Deny.

When a site asks for a password or a two-factor code, open the computer view, take over, then tap I'm done.

Evening: open the Bot's Library and have your Agent OS check anything the Bot produced.

If the job repeats, turn it into a routine; our Grok Bot routines guide shows how.

Android limits to plan around

The Android share sheet accepts text only for now, so attach images and files inside the app.

Reminders and Apple Home control are iPhone only.

Updating or recovering the cloud computer, and reconnecting a phone that can't reach it, need the desktop app.

App updates come from Google Play via Update Grok Bot.

Billing and cancelling, the short version

Buying in the app gets you monthly individual plans only; yearly, Teams and Enterprise go through the web.

There is no in-app trial on Android.

Google Play runs any subscription bought there: manage it under Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.

After moving to The X Subscription, cancel any Google Play plan still set to renew, as the Google Play note says.

Rolling it out to a team

Push it to company handsets through managed Google Play (Intune works), as the deployment docs describe.

Members sign in through your usual single sign-on.

Admins can set Bots on staff phones to ask every time, never allow or always allow.

What a good week looks like

By the end of the first week, your phone should buzz only for Bots that need a decision.

Your Agent OS should hold the rules, the notification plan and the weekly review notes, so nothing lives only in your head.

Every publish or send should pass through an Ask first card you read in full before tapping.

Routines should show clean runs in Run history, and any that failed should already be paused or fixed.

If that's not where you are, rerun Prompt 2 and Prompt 3 with what you learned and tighten the rules.

Members of the AI Profit Boardroom share their own rule sets on the weekly calls, which is the quickest way to borrow a working setup.

Keep the desktop app for the jobs the phone can't do, and let the phone do what it's best at: quick, informed yes-or-no decisions.

FAQ

Can my Agent OS control Grok Bot on my Android phone?

Your Agent OS writes the briefs, rules and checks; you paste them into Grok Bot and answer approvals on the phone. The Bots themselves run on Grok Bot's cloud computer.

Why does my Bot ask me to open Grok Bot on my phone?

A Bot can only use your phone's apps while Grok Bot is open on it. In the background it asks you to open the app and try again.

Where are Custom Rules on Android?

Open Settings and tap Custom Rules in the Bot group. Auto Review must be on for the rules to apply.

Can I test a routine from my Android phone?

No. You can view, pause, edit and add routines on the phone, but testing a routine needs the desktop app.
