Claude AI GEO is the work of getting your brand named and cited inside the answers Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, gives when someone asks for a recommendation.
GEO means generative engine optimisation, and here it's pointed at one assistant that shows its sources whenever it searches the web.
This quick start covers the access checks Anthropic documents, a baseline of buyer questions and a weekly tracker you can run from an Agent OS.
Nobody can guarantee what Claude says, but you can control whether it can reach your pages and what it finds when it looks.
If you'd like help first, book a free one-to-one GEO, AEO AI audit and get a custom game plan.
This is the whole loop as I'd run it inside an Agent OS, with the agent's job and your job side by side.
| Stage | What happens | Agent OS job | Your job |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Access | Anthropic's search and user bots can reach your pages. | An agent reads robots.txt on every subdomain and flags blocks. | Decide your ClaudeBot training choice. |
| 2. Indexing | Key pages carry no stray noindex tag. | An agent scans key URLs for noindex and login walls. | Approve the fixes. |
| 3. Baseline | You know who Claude names today for your buyer questions. | Store the prompt list and the first log in shared memory. | Run the questions in Claude with web search on. |
| 4. Proof | Every target question has a real case-study page. | An agent drafts answer-first pages from your notes. | Supply the real results and fact-check. |
| 5. Agreement | Other sites describe you with the same facts. | An agent compares your fact file with what Claude cited. | Fix or request corrections at the source. |
| 6. Weekly loop | You see trends, not one-off screenshots. | An agent compares this week's log with last week's. | Pick one fix per week. |
The agents handle the checking and the logging, while you supply the real proof and make the decisions.
Claude AI GEO is getting your brand named and cited inside the answers Claude gives.
Claude is the AI assistant made by Anthropic, and GEO is generative engine optimisation.
It's different from using Claude as a tool to do your SEO, which I cover in my Claude GEO SEO quick start.
My Claude SEO agency guide puts the stakes simply, because if you ask Claude who's best in your niche and it isn't your name, that recommendation goes to someone else.
Claude can answer from training data or from a live web search.
Anthropic's web search help article says Claude uses a search tool when a question benefits from current information.
You turn web search on from the "+" menu in a chat, and adding "Search the web" to a prompt helps make sure it searches.
The same article says every web search response includes citations, which is what makes tracking possible.
Anthropic's page on reporting, blocking and removing content says its web search uses search partners that index web content.
So a page has to be indexed and reachable before Claude's search can find it.
Anthropic doesn't publish ranking factors for Claude, so everything after access is a test rather than a rule.
Anthropic's help article on how site owners control its crawler lists three bots.
| Bot | What Anthropic says it does | What Anthropic says blocking it does |
|---|---|---|
| ClaudeBot | It collects web content that could contribute to training. | It signals your future material should be excluded from training data. |
| Claude-User | It fetches pages when someone asks Claude a question. | It may reduce your visibility for user-directed web search. |
| Claude-SearchBot | It improves the quality of Claude's search results. | It may reduce your visibility and accuracy in search results. |
If your robots.txt contains lines like these, you're blocking the two bots that matter for being cited.
# If you want to be cited, these lines are the problem: User-agent: Claude-SearchBot Disallow: / User-agent: Claude-User Disallow: /
Anthropic says rules need adding for each subdomain, and that blocking its IP addresses may not work reliably because it stops the bots reading robots.txt.
It supports the Crawl-delay extension if load is a concern, and it publishes its bot IP list at claude.com/crawling/bots.json.
ClaudeBot is a separate decision about training data, and it's your call either way.

Anthropic says the noindex robots meta tag tells its partners not to index your content, so it won't appear in Claude's web search outputs.
It also says password-protected content stays out of those outputs.
Have an agent scan your key service pages, case studies and guides for noindex and login walls, then approve the fixes yourself.
📞 Want my team to check your access with you?
Book a free one-to-one GEO, AEO AI audit and we'll look at your site, your competitors and the keywords you're closest to winning.
Write 20 to 30 questions a real buyer would ask Claude about your niche.
Ask each one in a fresh Claude chat with web search on, and paste the answers into an inbox folder in your workspace.
I keep this step human, because the point is to see what a real user sees.
Here's the log format I'd use, and the rows are a template rather than results from my own tracking.
| Buyer question | Named? | Pages Claude cited | Accurate? | This week's fix |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best [service] in [city] | No | Two directories and a competitor guide | Not applicable | Correct both directory listings. |
| Best [tool] for [job] | Yes, third | My comparison page | Yes | Add a newer case study. |
| Who is the best [specialist] | Yes, first | My case study and a podcast page | Partly | Fix the outdated fact on the podcast page. |
My first GEO move is to be the source, which means every page carries a real case study, test or result.
The AI can't write about a test only you ran, so that page becomes the one it has to point to.
In my GEO examples video, Google's AI Overview for "best geo expert" names me first and describes me as known for documenting GEO experiments and public testing.
That's Google rather than Claude, but it shows how a description gets built from pages that document real work.
Have an agent draft one answer-first page per question you're missing from, using a real case study from your test log.
My second move is to be everywhere, because AI answers lean on what several sources agree about.
I explain it like five friends recommending the same restaurant.
Keep one brand fact file in shared memory with your name, services, location and specialism written exactly the same way.
When Claude cites a page that gets a fact wrong, fix it at the source or ask the site owner to correct it.

Once the baseline exists, the job becomes a weekly comparison.
This is the skill file I'd give an agent so the loop runs the same way every week.
CLAUDE AI GEO TRACKER SKILL (weekly) 1. Load the buyer-question list, the brand fact file and last week's citation log from shared memory. 2. Read robots.txt on every subdomain. Flag any Disallow for Claude-SearchBot or Claude-User. 3. Check each key URL for a noindex tag or a login wall and flag it. 4. Take this week's Claude answers (asked by a human with web search on, fresh chats) from the inbox folder. 5. For each question, log: named yes/no, position, every cited URL, and whether the description matches the fact file. 6. Compare with last week. Report the three biggest changes and any new wrong facts. 7. For every question where we are not named, suggest one real case study from the test log, or say none exists. 8. Save the log and the report to shared memory. NEVER: invent answers or citations, treat one chat as proof, promise placements, or edit live pages without approval.
The NEVER line matters most, because an agent that invents a citation makes the whole log useless.
My third move is to be first, which means publishing within 24 hours of a topic appearing.
When Jev AI dropped, I published on "Jev architecture" and "Jev waitlist" that same weekend.
When Claude searches for something new, an early page is often one of the few good answers it can find.
Google's 1 October 2026 update to its page on using generative AI content says it's "critical to manually factcheck and review all AI-generated content".
That's good advice for Claude AI GEO too, because a fast page with wrong facts just spreads wrong facts.
📞 Want a list of the questions Claude should be naming you for?
Claim a free AEO SEO strategy session and leave with a custom game plan built around the keywords you're closest to winning.
My on-screen proof comes from Google's AI Overviews, Google's AI Mode and Perplexity.
When I ask AI Mode for the best GEO experts to follow in 2026, it lists me first and links to my sites, and Perplexity also lists me among GEO experts.
One of my sites went from zero to more than 1,300 Google clicks a day.
None of those screens is a Claude answer, so I'm not claiming Claude names me.
I share them because the same groundwork gives every AI assistant something real to find.
Nobody can guarantee what Claude says, and answers can vary between chats.
Anthropic doesn't publish ranking factors, so treat each change as an experiment.
Training-based answers change slowly, because they depend on future model releases.
Allowing the bots removes a blocker, but it doesn't promise a citation.
If you'd rather have experts run this with you, book a free strategy session and see the questions you're closest to winning.
Inside the AI Profit Boardroom you get my Agent OS, my SEO skill and checklist and the AI SEO automation section.
You also get four coaching calls a week, a member map and 3,400+ members working on the same problem.
It is the work of getting your brand named and cited inside Claude's answers, using access checks, case-study pages, consistent mentions and weekly tracking.
If you want to be cited, don't block Claude-User or Claude-SearchBot, because Anthropic says blocking them may reduce your visibility. ClaudeBot is a separate choice about training data.
Anthropic's help centre says every web search response includes citations, which is what makes weekly tracking possible.
I keep the asking human, in fresh chats with web search on, so the log reflects what a real user sees. The agent handles the logging and comparison.
