NotebookLM · Short Video Overviews

Turn your research into 60-second shorts.

NotebookLM just launched Short Video Overviews — drop in your sources and it makes a punchy, vertical, 60-second video that deep-dives any concept. It's the content that actually gets watched. I wired it into my Agent OS so I can spin up a batch on autopilot. Here's how.

Watch the ones I made ↓ A glowing vertical phone playing a short-form video, with book pages, PDFs and waveforms flowing into it and becoming the reel

Nobody reads your 40-page report. Everybody watches a 60-second short.so turn the report into the short.

In plain English first

What "Short Video Overviews" actually are

You know NotebookLM — Google's tool where you dump in your sources (docs, PDFs, YouTube links, notes) and it becomes a smart assistant on your stuff.

It already made podcasts and long video explainers from your sources. Now it makes short videos.

You point it at your material, pick a concept, and it spits out a 60-second, vertical video — the exact format that rules TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

NotebookLM's own words: "doom scrolling, but make it educational."

So the pile of research you'll never turn into content? That's now a scroll-stopping short in one click.

My story · why this matters

I sit on a mountain of content I never turn into shorts

Before

I've got guides, research docs, transcripts, and notes stacked up everywhere.

I know shorts are where the reach is — but making one meant scripting, recording, editing, captioning.

So most of that knowledge just sat there, never becoming the short-form content people actually watch.

Turning one doc into one decent vertical video could eat half a day.

Then NotebookLM shipped Short Video Overviews.

After

Now I drop my research into a notebook and get a 60-second vertical short back — hook, one idea, done.

And inside my Agent OS I automated it, so I can fire off a batch of shorts from any topic without touching the NotebookLM screen.

The mountain of knowledge finally becomes the content that grows the channel.

You can do this today. Same tool. Same path.

Commit to shipping one short today. Not someday.

You've got sources sitting in a folder right now that could be a short by tonight.

So make yourself one promise: before you sleep, you'll turn one doc into one 60-second video.

Just one. Because the moment making shorts stops being work, you start making them every day.

The people winning on video in 2026 aren't the best editors. They're the ones who found the fastest path from idea to posted.

Straight from the source

Here's the announcement

This dropped from the NotebookLM team — it's the whole reason for this guide:

What it's actually saying

"60-second, vertical videos" — this is the headline. Vertical + short = made for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, not a widescreen explainer nobody finishes.

"deep dive into any concept" — you can point it at one idea inside your sources, so each short is about one clear thing (that's what performs).

"your most complex sources" — dense research, long PDFs, technical docs — the stuff hardest to turn into content is exactly what it eats.

Rolling out to AI Ultra & Pro (free users soon) — so if you're on a paid plan it's live right now, on mobile and web.

How to make one

Three steps, about a minute of your time

1

Feed it your sources

Open a NotebookLM notebook and add your material — a doc, a PDF, a YouTube link, pasted notes. The messier and denser, the better.

2

Ask for a Short Video

In the Studio panel, pick Video Overview → the short/brief format, and tell it the one concept to focus on. Then hit create.

3

Download + post

A minute or two later you've got a 60-second vertical video. Download it, add your hook in the caption, and post it to Shorts / Reels / TikTok.

The Agent OS upgrade

I made it one command — a batch of shorts, hands-off

The clicking is easy, but doing it one at a time is still slow. So I connected NotebookLM to my Agent OS so it can drive the whole thing for me.

Now I can say "make me short videos on these five topics" and my Agent OS creates the notebooks, adds the sources, and fires off every short — while I do something else. No clicking through the NotebookLM screen at all.

The two shorts below? I didn't touch NotebookLM once. My Agent OS made them for me — that's the difference between a tool and a system.

Real shorts

Two 60-second shorts my Agent OS just made

Both generated hands-off from my research notebooks — vertical, punchy, ready to post:

"AI Agents in 2026" — the single biggest shift, deep-dived from my Agent OS research notebook.
"June 2026 AI Agent Drops" — the month's key releases, rounded up in 60 seconds.

Made from my "AI Agents 2026" and "June 2026 AI Agent Releases" notebooks — same sources, two scroll-stopping shorts.

The shift

Editing shorts by hand vs one click from your research

The old way

  • Script, record, and edit every short by hand.
  • Half a day per video, so you post rarely.
  • Your best research never becomes content.
  • Reach stalls because you can't keep up.

The new way

  • Drop in your sources, get a 60-second vertical back.
  • Minutes per video — post daily if you want.
  • Every doc and transcript becomes a short.
  • Batch them hands-off from your Agent OS.
"Sounds like another pricey tool + a load of setup."

NotebookLM's short videos ride on a Google plan you may already have — and the Agent OS that automates them runs on free local models, free API tiers, and the CLIs you already pay for (I plug my existing Claude subscription straight in at no extra cost).

And inside the AI Profit Boardroom there's a full set of token-efficiency tutorials, so cost is never the thing that stops you shipping content.

The full system

Short videos are one piece. Agent OS is the content machine.

Turning research into shorts on autopilot is one thing my Agent OS does. Here's what running the whole operating system looks like:

NotebookLM on autopilot — batch shorts, podcasts and explainers from any topic.
The full agent fleet — Claude, Codex, Kimi, GLM, Grok, Hermes, in one dashboard.
The content pipeline — research → script → video → SEO, end to end.
Run it for free — local models, free tiers, and the CLIs you already pay for.
Token-efficiency training — so cost is never what stops you.

Where this goes

Your knowledge, finally in the format people watch

For years the gap was the same: you had the knowledge, but turning it into short-form video was too much work to do consistently.

That gap just closed. Your sources go in, a 60-second short comes out — and with the Agent OS, a whole batch comes out while you sleep.

So pick a doc. Make one short. Post it.

The research is done. Now make the short.
